Secondary Course Objectives

Malvern Language Centre aims to provide our students with the opportunities and resources to develop the mastery of the language in preparation for the Cambridge ‘O’ Level Examinations.

We start of by teaching the concepts according to the school’s syllabus. We will monitor the progress of your child until he or she understands the concepts and skills fully.

After which, we have intensive practices where your child gets to apply what he or she learns in a variety of questions and exercises.

Closer towards the examinations our lessons get more intensive as we equip your child with exam-smart skills and strategies for getting an A.



Lower Secondary Classes (Sec 1-2)

Fridays 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Saturdays 10.00am – 12.00pm

Upper Secondary Classes (Sec 3-5)

Thursdays 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Saturdays 1.00pm – 3.00pm

Exam Format

Writing Skills

    Editing : identify and edit grammatical errors in a short written text
    Situational Writing : 250 – 350 words on a given situation which will involve viewing a visual text.
    Continuous Writing : 350 – 500 words on one of four topics set.

Comprehension Skills

    Visuals : To answer a variety of questions testing comprehension, and on the use of visuals as well as the use of language for impact.
    Narrative in nature : To answer questions testing comprehension, vocabulary in context and the use of language for impact.
    Non-narrative in nature : To answer questions testing comprehension, vocabulary in context and the use of language for impact. Also required to write summary of about 80 words.

Listening

    To respond to a variety of listening tasks that will assess a range of listening skills.
    To listen to an informational text and complete a simple note-taking task.

Oral Communication

    To read aloud a short text, bearing in mind the purpose, audience and context.
    To engage in a discussion with the examiners on a topic based on a visual stimulus.
